The Sierra Nevada Mountain Range (Californians call it the High Sierra) is a 400-mile long range that runs north to south along the eastern part of California. There is an enormous amount of skiing on Lake Tahoe's North and South shores on over to Mammoth and June Mountains.
Tahoe resorts include Heavenly, Kirkwood, and Sierra-at-Tahoe on the South Shore. The North Shore resorts are Palisades Tahoe, Boreal, Diamond Peak, Donner Ski Ranch, Granlibakken, Mt. Rose, Northstar-at-Tahoe, Ski Homewood, Soda Springs, Squaw Valley USA, Sugar Bowl, and Tahoe Donner.
Other ski areas are in different parts of the Sierra, such as Dodge Ridge at Pinecrest, but this is the bulk of the skiing and riding.
