Alta Ski Area Trail Map
Alta’s terrain is spread across two primary base areas—Albion and Wildcat—and includes 2,614 acres of skiable terrain with 118 named trails. The mountain rises from a base elevation of 8,525 ft to a summit of 11,068 ft, offering a vertical drop of 2,538 ft. The resort’s layout naturally separates beginner, intermediate, and advanced terrain, allowing skiers to progress confidently while exploring the mountain’s varied zones.
Beginners will find their footing in the Albion Basin, where lifts like Sunnyside and Albion serve gentle green runs such as Crooked Mile, Home Run, and Patsey Marley. These slopes are wide, well-groomed, and ideal for learning, with easy access to the Alf Engen Ski School and the Alta Children’s Center. The terrain here is sheltered and scenic, making it a comfortable environment for families and first-timers.
Intermediate skiers can venture into the Sugarloaf and Supreme areas, where blue runs like Roller Coaster, Devil’s Elbow, and Rock ‘N Roll offer longer descents and varied pitch. The Ballroom Bowl, accessed via Collins lift, provides a powder-filled playground with moderate challenge and stunning views of Mount Baldy. These zones are perfect for building confidence and exploring off-piste features.
Advanced terrain dominates the Wildcat and Collins zones, with iconic runs like Alf’s High Rustler, Eagle’s Nest, and Extrovert offering steep pitches, moguls, and technical descents. The High Traverse opens access to expansive bowls and chutes, including Gunsight and Stone Crusher, which reward skilled skiers with deep snow and dramatic lines. These areas are less groomed and more rugged, ideal for those seeking challenge and variety.
Alta does not feature formal terrain parks, but natural features like wind lips, gullies, and tree zones provide freestyle opportunities across the mountain. The resort’s terrain is shaped by ridgelines, open bowls, and glades, with hike-to zones offering untouched powder and panoramic views. The longest run, Home Run, stretches 1.3 miles and connects multiple zones for a scenic descent.
Families can explore together thanks to the resort’s intuitive layout and clear signage. Beginners should stick to Albion Basin, intermediates will enjoy Sugarloaf and Supreme, and experts can challenge themselves in Wildcat and Collins. With terrain diversity and consistently dry powder, Alta offers a rewarding experience for skiers of all abilities.
