50 cm Storm Total... and Counting!
The storm continues to deliver, and it should be an epic one out there today! We've had another 19 cm (with about 10 of that overnight) in the past 24 hours and it is still snowing and blowing as I write this. The current temperature is minus 2.5, which is about as warm as it should get for the day, and the wind is a very strong northwesterly.
The snow is cold and dry in the village so it should be skiing and riding really well in all open areas. The groomers will be fun and there'll be plenty of powder turns to be found. The wind will play havoc with the upper and out lifts but there will still be lots of really good options. Just stay out of the Extreme Area until patrol have finished doing avalanche control work.
The northwesterly will be blowing it into all of the right places, so stop reading this and get out there.
Travel advice: Hotham is following all advice provided by Victoria Police. At this time, guests are advised to avoid travelling through Porepunkah when en route to Hotham. If you are approaching from Myrtleford, Porepunkah can be avoided with a detour via Running Creek/Tawonga on Happy Valley Rd > Kiewa Valley Hwy > Tawonga Gap Road. This will add approximately 30 minutes travel time to your journey. If you can, travel via Bairnsdale/Omeo is recommended, especially given the heavy snow forecast.
