Alternatively, travellers can fly into Santa Fe (100 miles away) or Albuquerque (159 miles away), both of which offer car hire and shuttle services. The resort provides complimentary ground transfers from Taos Regional Airport to key locations including The Blake and Rio Hondo Learning Center.
For those arriving by road, NM-150 offers direct access from the town of Taos, passing through Arroyo Seco. Free winter shuttle services operate Wednesday through Sunday via the TSV 341 GREEN route, connecting Taos Ski Valley with surrounding communities. Located on the second floor of The Blake Lodge at the Base Area of Taos Ski Valley, visitors can ski in/out or get room service.&nbsp;
&bull; The Black Diamond Espresso has two locations at Taos Ski Valley, one on the mountain and one at the base. It&rsquo;s a great place for a quick cup of joe or tasty nibble.&nbsp;

&bull; Tim&rsquo;s Stray Dog Cantina is a perfect representation of Northern New Mexican cuisine. Serving the Taos area for over 30 years, they are known for their green and red chili. Having won multiple awards, this local treasure is a must stop.
&bull; The Bavarian Lodge &amp; Restaurant offers a gourmet menu with hearty dishes like Sauerbraten Wienerschnitzel, and K&auml;sesp&auml;tzle. Located at the base of Lift 4, the Bavarian Restaurant is the perfect place to grab a specialty beer or glass of wine after a long day on the mountain.&nbsp;
&bull; I know we already mentioned 192 at The Blake for breakfast, but it is a fantastic place for a dinner date as well with an extensive wine menu to pair with a great menu of small plates and entrees. Save room for the big skillet chocolate chip cookie!

&bull; The Blonde Bear Tavern is a popular ski-in, ski-out destination for apres-ski. Order a pomegranate martini or a hot toddy and sit by the fireplace to warm up from the cold.&nbsp;

Taos Ski Valley&rsquo;s terrain is renowned for its steep pitches and technical challenges, but it also offers a well-rounded experience for skiers of all levels. The base area features beginner-friendly zones with gentle slopes and pint-sized lifts, ideal for families and first-timers. White Feather and Pioneer Glade are standout green runs, offering scenic descents and a forgiving gradient.
Intermediate skiers will enjoy the north side of the mountain, particularly runs like Honeysuckle and Upper Totemoff. These blues offer rolling terrain and access to mid-mountain dining, with Lift 8 providing efficient access to a variety of options. High Five is a slightly steeper blue that&rsquo;s perfect for building confidence on powder days.
Advanced skiers gravitate toward Al&rsquo;s Run, a mogul-heavy descent with a 30-degree pitch, and Longhorn, which offers wide carving space and fewer crowds. Start your day early&mdash;especially after a storm. Taos gets tracked out quickly, and first chair on Lift 1 can mean untouched powder on Al&rsquo;s Run before the moguls form. If you&rsquo;re chasing fresh snow, head straight to Kachina Peak. The lift whisks you to 12,481 ft in minutes, and the descent offers some of the most exhilarating lines in the Southwest.
For a quieter experience, ski Honeysuckle mid-morning. It&rsquo;s a long, flowing blue run with fewer skiers and excellent grooming. The views from the upper section are stunning, and it connects easily to Upper Totemoff for a relaxed loop. Stop at the mid-mountain restaurant for a warm drink and a breather.
Families should make the Rio Hondo Learning Center their base. It&rsquo;s not just a ski school&mdash;it&rsquo;s a full-service facility with miniature lifts, themed terrain, and a dedicated equipment shop for kids. Visit between 10:00 and 12:00 for the best snow and fewer crowds.
On powder days, skip the obvious and head to West Basin Ridge. A short hike from Lift 2 opens up steep chutes like Stauffenberg and Zdarsky. These lines stay fresh longer and offer a thrilling descent for advanced skiers. Be sure to check conditions before heading out.
For intermediate skiers looking to push their limits, High Five is a great choice. It&rsquo;s steeper than most blues and often overlooked, making it ideal for carving turns without traffic. It&rsquo;s especially rewarding on soft snow days when the pitch helps build confidence.
Apr&egrave;s-ski at The Bavarian is a must. Located near the base of Kachina Peak, it serves hearty fare and German beer in a cosy alpine setting. Weekends feature live music, and the outdoor patio is perfect for sunset views with a warm drink in hand.
If you&rsquo;re staying in the village, take the Gondolita from Firehouse Road to the base. It&rsquo;s a short ride but saves energy in ski boots and gets you to the lifts faster. It&rsquo;s also a scenic way to start your day, especially when the valley is dusted in fresh snow.
For scenic skiing, try North American late in the day. The light hits the ridgeline beautifully, and the run offers a mix of technical turns and wide-open sections. It&rsquo;s a great way to wind down before heading to dinner.
Don&rsquo;t miss Maxie&rsquo;s Terrain Park if you&rsquo;re into freestyle. The skier&rsquo;s left side features big airs and a new manual pad, while skier&rsquo;s right has smaller features for progression. It&rsquo;s open from 10:00 to 15:00 and is groomed daily for optimal flow.
Finally, if you&rsquo;re driving in from Santa Fe, take the High Road. It&rsquo;s longer but winds through historic villages, art galleries, and dramatic landscapes. Stop in Chimayo or Truchas for a bite or a photo&mdash;it's a memorable way to begin your Taos adventure.

Santa Fe Regional Airport (SAF) is a closer airport option for travelers heading to Taos Ski Valley, located roughly a 2-hour drive away. Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) is another alternative, approximately a 2.5-hour drive from the resort. Choosing SAF may offer a more direct route to Taos Ski Valley compared to ABQ, depending on flight availability and preferences.
